Amsterdam / アムステルダム
“What an amazing city here is!”, so I thought. I was surprised as there were really many races. There is everything in Amsterdam. Desire, crime, culture, and art. So many things are there.
「なんて町だ…」 これがアムステルダムの第一印象でした。まず人種の多さに本当に驚きました。そして、欲望、犯罪、文化、芸術、アムステルダムには何でもあるんだという事が、何よりもまず興味深かった。
Otherwise, a cousin of mine lives in Amsterdam, and works as bicycle taxi driver. It was nice that I could meet him. I got on this taxi and we ran together for a moment. Also in Amsterdam you can speak Japanese with him!
ところで私の従兄弟の一人がアムステルダムに住んでいて、自転車タクシーの仕事をしています。もし誰かアムステルダムに行かれたら、写真のタクシーを探して、シャニーなる人物がいるか聞いてみてください。日本語ＯＫだし、頼めば町のガイドもしてくれますよー。
しかし私と彼とは同い年。異国の地へ飛び出していって、ゼロから仕事を見つけて一生懸命生きてる姿は眩しかった。
Maybe it’s famous that they can smoke light drug here. And this is interesting: “Café” is for coffee & tea, and “Coffee shop” is for drugs.
But there are also people who sell hard drugs. Of course it’s illegal. But during the daytime I saw that the police arrested a man like that. My cousin said that it is not a particular thing.
オランダでは軽い麻薬が合法なのは、結構有名な話だと思います。ちょっとおもしろかったのが、”Café”は普通の喫茶店、”Coffee shop”が麻薬を扱ってる店、らしいです。
町中にはやはり強い麻薬を売ってる人もいます。もちろん違法。着いた日だったか、警察が密売人を逮捕するところを目撃しました。昼間の話です。いとこ曰く、珍しい出来事ではないようです。区域によっては、月一回くらいで発砲事件もあるらしいです。
This is the red light show window of prostitute, and I walked through this area with my cousin. Maybe here is also famous, I guess. There are many windows(doors) with red light, and many prositutes are waiting for their visitor. But it was really strange for me that many women only with bikini are standing by windows and looking us.
And what’s amazing is that this area is really near by central station, and is really open for everyone. There are many people who live in this area, there are also many hostels, bars and restaurants, and in the daytime many children are also playing anywhere in this area.
きっとこれもそこそこ有名な場所だと思いますが、「飾り窓」と呼ばれる風俗街があります。赤い照明の窓（ドア）が並び、そこにビキニ姿の娼婦達が立ち並んで客を待っています。それこそマネキンみたいに。（そして多くはブラックライトに照らされ水着が光ってる…）
このエリアを従兄弟と歩いたのですが、ガラス一枚挟んでいるとはいえ、生身の女性がビキニ姿で立ち並んで自分たちを見ている様は、何とも異様でした。ちょっと薄気味悪くもありました。入ることは… 無いだろうな。
何が驚いたって、このエリアが中央駅のすぐそばにあるということ。そして本当にオープンな場所である、ということ。このエリアに住んでる人も多いし、ホステルやバー、レストランなんかも多く、昼間では子供たちもそこらじゅうで遊んでる。
There are also many spots for culture and art in Amsterdam. Many great museums and theaters are there. And now some great buildings for culture, business, art are in construction near by central station. The conservatorium which I visited also builds a new school building with a great concert hall there.
アムステルダムには、文化や芸術のための場所も多い。いくつもの大きな美術館や劇場が点在しているし、いま中央駅のそばでは文化・商業・芸術のための巨大なビル郡が建設されています。私が訪ねてきた音楽院も、ここに立派なコンサートホールを備えた新校舎を建設中。
In Amsterdam there is also a port, where a great ship can anchor, and I saw a really really great ship there. Many busses and trams are running all day long.
アムステルダムの港も、巨大な船が停泊できる大規模なもの。ちょうど滞在中に、超巨大な客船が停泊しているのを目撃しました。なんというか、ビルよりでかい。
バスもトラムも一日中走ってて、都市としての機能も発達してます。
And you can find really many races here. White, black, European, Asian, Middle Eastern, African, North and South American… Every races are there in Amsterdam. Maybe New York is so, too. But it was enough amazing.
そして本当に人種が多い。白いのも黒いのも、ヨーロッパ人もアジア人も中東人もアフリカ人も南北アメリカ人も、アムステルダムにはもう何でもいる。きっとニューヨークもそうなんでしょうけれど、私にはもう十分驚きでした。
The city Amsterdam interests me. This city is not beautiful, I’d like to say so. But this Amsterdam is really interesting. I want to live here, I thought.
If I live here, many things will happen, I guess. The life goes surely not always easy. But it is good and important for me now, I think. Of course I will study music, but I can also learn many many other things.
アムステルダムという町は、とても興味を惹きます。綺麗な町とはちょっと言えないけれど、しかし本当に興味深い。ここに住みたいなと思いました。
きっと住んだら色々なことが起こるんでしょう。生活は間違いなく単純にはいかないだろうけれど、ただそれが今の自分には良いし重要なんだと思います。もちろん音楽を学ぶつもりなんですが、きっとそれ以外の数々のことを学べるはずです。
